What is a TEDx event?

Have you ever heard of TED talks?  The TED talks you see online are from the TED’s annual conferences.  A TEDx event is an independently organized TED event that organizers from around the world produce in their home towns.  You can get a TED-like experience in Lancaster, PA by attending TEDxLancaster!  These events are organized by passionate individuals who seek to uncover new ideas and to share the latest research in their local areas that spark conversations in their communities. TEDx events include live speakers and recorded TED Talks, and are organized independently under a free license granted by TED. These events are not controlled by TED, but event organizers agree to abide by the TED format, and are offered guidelines for curation, speaker coaching, event organizing and more. They learn from TED and from each other. More than 3000 events are now held annually.

TEDxLancaster strives to curate tomorrow’s stars today.  Many of our speakers, while doing amazing work, are flying “under the radar.”  It is our goal to find these changemakers and provide them a platform with which to spread their ideas.  If you haven’t heard of any of our speakers, you will!

While watching TED talks online can be inspiring, the real magic happens when you attend a TED or TEDx event.  Why?  These events bring together like-minded people that want to change the world, or themselves.  They connect with one another, share their dreams and goals, and find comfort knowing that there are others just like them.  TEDx events expose attendees to different viewpoints.  They inspire, motivate, and educate.  They also highlight the great "ideas worth spreading" that are currently taking place right in your own area. Attend TEDxLancaster, or any other TED or TEDx event, and see why attendees say they feel like they've found their "tribe."

About TED

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. TED believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. On TED.com, they're building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at TED and TEDx events around the world, all year long.

In fact, everything TED does — from they’re Conferences to TED Talks to the projects sparked by The Audacious Project, from the global TEDx and TED Translators communities to the TED-Ed lesson series — is driven by this goal: How can we best spread great ideas?

TED is owned by a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation. Theirr agenda is to make great ideas accessible and spark conversation. Follow TED on Twitter at http://twitter.com/TEDTalks, or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/TED.
